THE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROJECT AT THE
CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY OF ANGOLA

The project will allow the University to adopt modern computer and networking technology

BOSTON, MA - The Angola Educational Assistance Fund announced today a new project to help the Catholic University of Angola to implement a modern and state-of-the-art Information Technology and Internet access center.  The project will have a duration of a year (July 1, 1998 - June 30, 1999).  The AEAF believes that the know-how and technology transfer will allow the Catholic University to be fully independent and and self-sufficient, with trained staff guided by competent management.   Its student and staff will be able to use computers to communicate and access information on the Internet very much as their peers around the world.  For the Catholic University of Angola, this will represent an efficient and inexpensive way to improve its educational offer.

An international and independent board of consultants has been formed, with the following purposes:

The AEAF will work with selected organizations to facilitate the implementation of the center and the necessary know-how transfer.  A first collaboration agreement has been signed with the International Telecomputing Consortium (ITC), a non-profit organization dedicated to provide Internet access in rural and under-developed areas of the world.

"It is our goal to help the Catholic University to be fully independent and and self-sufficient, with trained staff guided by a competent management.   This will allow the University to quickly achieve a very high quality of academic offering", said AEAF President Filippo Nardin.
