THE CARDINAL OF ANGOLA VISITS THE UNITED STATES

The visit will focus on support for the Catholic University of Angola by US organizations and businesses

BOSTON, MA - His Eminence Dom Alexandre do Nascimento, Cardinal of Angola will be visiting the United States June 1-10, 1999. The journey will be facilitated by the Angola Educational Assistance Fund (AEAF), a Boston-based non-profit organization that supports the establishment of the Catholic University of Angola and seeks to help establish the highest possible standard for academic education in Angola by promoting collaboration between international and Angolan institutions and by encouraging the involvement of the private sector in rebuilding the Angolan society.

Cardinal do Nascimento is the Honorary Chairman of the Catholic University of Angola. He will be accompanied by Father Filomeno Vieira-Dias, vice-Rector of the Catholic University. The visit of His Eminence will have some private aspects, but we also foresee – as part of the purposes of the visit - public activities as part of an effort to win the support for the Catholic University of organizations working in Angola, of potential donors, and of academic institutions and Ngo’s that may want to collaborate with the Catholic University.
