AEAF SHIPMENT OF COMPUTERS, TEXTBOOKS AND OTHER ITEMS ARRIVES AT CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY IN LUANDA
Over 200 Internet-ready computer systems are delivered by the AEAF
Luanda, Angola A shipment of more than 200 computer systems and over 1000 information and communication technology text books arrived today at the Catholic University of Angola (UCAN). The shipment continues efforts by the Angola Educational Assistance Fund (AEAF), a US-based non-profit organization founded in 1996 by the late Michael Kennedy, to work with and support the expansion of the Catholic University of Angola.
The AEAF initiated efforts to obtain donations of computer equipment in late spring, 2001, from numerous private institutions across the United States. The search for ICT textbooks began earlier this year when the newly established School of Computer Engineering requested the AEAFs assistance in obtaining textbooks for the new department.
"These systems will be made available to students as part of a program to make personal computing an integral part of the academic activities," said AEAF President, Filippo Nardin. "Through the program, students will receive an introductory one-day course and an Internet-ready computer to be used at home."
To meet the high demands for these systems, AEAF will consider organize similar shipments on a regular basis. Since 1996, the AEAF has provided UCAN and its staff and students with hundreds of computers and over 50,000 academic textbooks.
